Wondering what’s going on and what the plan is? It took us a minute to get the ball rolling - far longer than we ever anticipated, but we’ve finally made some major progress and construction is underway.

Here’s an extremely rough estimate of construction plans…

AUGUST 2024

✅ Entrance road

✅ Water well

✅ Excavation for underground to begin

✅ UTV Invasion August 28-31st

SEPTEMBER 2024

* Power & Water

OCTOBER 2024

* Building Delivered

While the above outline is our current plans - we don’t yet know what we don’t know. So flexibility is the name of the game. Things could change. We hope not, but ya know…..life.

So - here it is as we know for now…

  • Right across the street, actually.

We are located on the East side of the dunes on Red Road.

We are approximately 9 miles from the Rexburg North exit of Hwy 20. You can find a google map to the park on our “maps” page at the bottom of the website.

Our entrance/driveway sits across the street from the dunes and is about a 6-8 minute ride to Thunder Mountain.

  • If all goes well, our anticipated opening date will be April 34, 2025. Follow us on your social media platform of choice to find out when that will be. When we know - YOU’ll know!

  • We are not yet currently taking reservations as the park is under construction and we don’t know the exact layout of the sites yet based on the amount of lava rock both adove and underground.

Depending on how well excavation goes this month, we are expecting to be able to open reservations no later than October or November of 2024. Ideally though, we’d like to open reservations by September 2024.

You can join the notifications list at the bottom of the site to receive email notification when reservations are open.

  • Unfortunately the short answer is no, but this is for a couple reasons…

    1. The agreement we have with Fremont County for approvals for the park is that Sand Box RV will maintain ownership, rights and sole management to each individual site. The County will not allow it.

    2. We also aren’t selling sites simply because we’re not interested in sharing site ownership. Simple as that. It creates some dynamic that we don’t want to also have to manage.

But rest assured we will have tons of space for everybody to have a spot. Initial development includes 125 sites (a combo of single sites and group sites - all of which will be huge), but that only covers a small portion of the property. When we have the need for more sites, we have left ourselves the option to expand to accommodate as much as four times as many.

  • Every group site and every single site will have hookups for 50 amp power and water.

Single sites will have a single power pedestal. Group sites will have two power pedestals. We will not have sewer hookups initially (this is a possibility down the road, but we have to allocate funds to opening the park and this added expense is not a top priority for opening), but our current plans include a 2 lane RV dump station.

We are looking into a portable pump-out service that will come to your camp to empty black and gray tanks for your longer stays.

  • We are currently waiting on survey and engineering to complete their process to know the exact layout of the park, but we are anticipating very large single and group sites.

Our plan is for single sites to be roughly 70’ deep by 35’ wide. Large enough for a single xlarge trailer, tow vehicle, possibly an additional vehicle, side by side vehicle(s), and still provide enough room for a fire pit, picnic table, and space to maneuver within each individual site.

The standard Group sites are anticipated to be roughly 70’ x 70’. These should be large enough to easily fit 3-4 large rigs, their tow vehicles, and still have enough room for all the extras listed above as well as room to maneuver.

Though these sizes are our TYPICAL we will also have extra large premium sites that can accommodate even bigger rigs. Some even up to 150’ long. Basically, the sites will be HUGE and you’ll have plenty of space.

  • As of today, August 2024, all subcontractors have been secured, the entrance road is complete, the well has been drilled and just waiting on a pump and all our underground excavation and construction is well underway.

Prior to the snowfall last Fall we grubbed roughly 40 of the nearly 70 acres in addition to the road.

All that cleared sage was either burned or is in giant piles on the property that has been bermed on the outer edges of the park

We have surveyed the park layout, scheduled our first building to be delivered this Fall, and we are anxiously awaiting excavation to remove the seemingly unending supply of lava rock riddling the park to cut in and create RV sites so we can start to take shape!

  • Each of our designated camp sites (single and group sites) will be equipped with a 50 amp power pedestal and water. Group sites will have two 50 amp power pedestals.

There will also be a fire pit and picnic table per site.

Some sites will be pull-through, some will be back -in (or pull in) sites. Each site will be partitioned so site boundaries are clearly marked.

  • Tent sites are not widely used in the St Anthony Dunes area. Tent specific sites are something we can certainly consider, but someone can definitely throw a tent up in the 10+ acre dry camping area.

We will take it into consideration and discuss this option with Fremont County.

  • Yes. We have a designated area of about 6 acres specifically reserved for dry camping.

  • The BLM had previously closed dune access from our location so it’s not well known access point. Recently (and for the first time since 1976) the BLM has opened up this access point for our use. This access trail is just across the street from the Sand Box RV entrance and a quick 10 minute ride to Thunder Mountain.

There’s a map you can see the layout on our maps page at the bottom of the site.

  • The mini track will be primarily for smaller two wheeled bikes so that inexperienced riders can safely learn how to ride in the sand without the worry or hassle of riding out in the dunes Many have asked to use this for bigger machines to race and jump. While we would love to be able to accommodate everybody, large and heavy machines and more experienced riders have all 11,000 acres of incredible sand bowls for that.

The idea for the mini track is for small, inexperienced riders to ride their two wheelers in the safety of camp, in a sort of controlled environment, and without the added stress of learning in the soft sand or worrying about cars and bigger bikes around them.

BUT - we would also love to host some fun events on the track for everybody to enjoy such as RC car races, quads and more that anybody can participate in.

But the main idea and purpose for the mini track is to keep it reserved for small machines and new riders.

Inexperienced riders without their own bikes will be able to rent one of ours hourly. Rentals will not be allowed outside of the park, and are only for use on the mini pit track.

  • Absolutely. We have already hosted UTV Invasion August 2023, and are hosting again 2024, have hosted CanAm Dealer Training, and plan to host many, many events of all kinds.

We are also making arrangements with several other large companies to host their annual events as well. As those plans are finalized, we will be announcing each individually and adding them to events calendar so you always know the best times to come stay with us.

You can find any events planned on our event page here.

If you are a business that would like to host an event at our location, we’d love to hear from you. You can contact us through the “ideas” portal here. Just let us know who you are, and what type of event you host. We are open to considering all sorts of styles of events.

  • We are a pet-friendly facility as long as you’re bringing friendly pets. Our large, fenced and grassy pet area is the perfect spot for your 4 legged friend to run around unleashed (at your own discretion and risk, of course).

If your pet is not friendly, or causes an issue, you will be required to keep your pet inside your rig while at the park. If a pet is left unattended and is crying or barking disturbing other campers, that’s not considered ‘friendly” and we’ll have to send the boys over.

Don’t do that. Nobody wants that.

    More Info

  • While we love local campers as much as we love our traveling campers, we will not have a lower discounted rate for locals.

We invite everybody and anybody to come stay with us from wherever it is you call home.

Our sites will be at amazing rates so it’s low for everybody.

Or - I guess you can say YES, we’ll have lower rates for locals, but non-locals will get them too! We love everyone equally.

  • We are currently working on amenities for those traveling to see us who don’t have their own accommodations. We would like to have a designated area for mini bungalows to rent for the night. Bungalows may not be available at park opening in April 2025, but is something on our priorities list for soon thereafter.

  • We have plans for side by side rentals within the park. These plans have not yet been finalized. We'll know more as opening dates get closer, but we hope to partner with a rental company to give you the best options for those who do not yet have their own side by sides.

You can find side by side rental info here for Patriot Motorsports who currently has rentals nearby.

  • Yes. We will have restroom and shower facilities on site for Sand Box patron’s use only.

ADA compliant restrooms and showers will be included.

  • Sand Box amenities are reserved for Sand Box patrons only.

In the event that a large scale event is happening on the property, and event-goers are coming from all over, we will have day use permits available for patrons to come and enjoy events even if they’re not staying with us.

Mini pit track, outdoor gaming area, dog park, and all other amenities are reserved for Sand Box patrons only.
